Council is planning for the community's future housing needs and reviewing our current Housing Strategy 2009.
To kick start the project a Discussion Paper has been prepared looking at the work that has been done since 2009.
The Discussion Paper covers the many complex issues related to planning for the future whilst protecting the past.
Some of the key questions about important issues and opportunities are highlighted below.

The Housing Strategy will identify the residential areas where further development is supported. It will do this through a planning framework that defines areas suitable for substantial (major), incremental (gradual) and minimal (little) change. The level of change for an area is based on the services and facilities available, how near they are to public transport and schools, landscape and neighbourhood character and any environmental impacts.
Neighbourhood character is a description of how the features of residential areas come together to give the neighbourhood its own particular character.
Different types of well-designed homes, such as apartments, townhouses, residential care and shared housing, support people stay in their own home or community through different life stages and experiences.
'Univeral design', or accessible housing is about making homes easier for all people, including older residents and people with disabilities to move around in.
Council knows that having access to safe, secure, and affordable housing is essential to good health, wellbeing and participation in society. The increasing gap in housing affordability and the lack of social housing impacts people in our community in the lowest income brackets.
Council is committed to encouraging greater environmental sustainability in the location, design and construction of our housing and neighbourhoods.
