Thrivance: Then, Now, Next by Tiriki Onus, Lin Onus and Bill Onus with Jenna Lee and Jamie Ferguson, will be a significant permanent artwork installed on the ngurrak barring | RidgeWalk trail.

This powerful work weaves together four generations of family history, activism, and creative expression that have taken place in goranwarrabil (the Dandenong Ranges).

Drawing from the Onus family archive, Thrivance: Then, Now, Next pays homage to the legacy of Yorta Yorta artist and activist William ‘Bill’ Onus, who operated the business Aboriginal Enterprises in Belgrave during the 1950s and ‘60s.

The installation also celebrates the life and artistic evolution of Lin Onus, whose pioneering fusion of Aboriginal and European artistic traditions addressed both political and aesthetic themes.

Central to the installation is a series of tall sculptural signposts, each embodying a significant motifs and themes from the archive—Aboriginal Enterprises, land rights, cultural knowledge (like boomerang-throwing), ecological connections (flora, fauna, water), and Aboriginal identity.
