Yarra Ranges is rich with heritage, and Council’s first ever Heritage Strategy and Policy will set out our role for the identification, protection, management and celebration of heritage. They will work together to formalise positive heritage measures already in place and identify priorities for Council and the community.
These documents will outline Council’s position on heritage including high value buildings, significant trees, places of significance, Indigenous cultural values and other aspects of heritage. It will guide Council's decision making and future work through a vision, objectives and principles that will include short, medium, and long-term actions covering a 10-year timeframe.
These insights gathered in the first phase of Community Engagement, and outlined in the Engagement and Directions Paper have informed the draft documents now open for your review and feedback. Through the first stage of engagement, the four themes recommended by Heritage Victoria for a municipal heritage strategy were revised to better reflect a holistic approach to heritage from deep time to the future in Yarra Ranges.
