• Chin Community Harvest Festival

We attended the Chin Community Harvest Festival Day on Saturday 28 October.

This event is when the Chin Community comes together to celebrate and reflect on Thanksgiving Day. It is an wonderful opportunity to show gratitude to friends and the local community by showcasing Chin arts and culture.

  • Featured engagements

We spoke to the community about how to get involved and 'have your say' on projects open for community consultation. We shared Yarra Ranges Local publications and information about council services in particular family & children's services. As always, we encourage any discussion around what you love about your local area and we loved getting to know more about the Chin community culture !

  • Connections

The Waste Transition team joined us to talk about FOGO and Youth team chatting around programs for 14 to 25 year olds including FReeZA - also to recruit driving mentors to assist with the L2P program ! Early Years team had some fun activities to engage the children and spoke to families about supported playgroup opportunities and kinder services. We engaged with over 140 people including Mooroolbark locals and members of the Chin Community who reside in Yarra Ranges and further afield.

  • What we heard

    • You love Mooroolbark & the sense of community you feel here.
    • It was lovely to hear many of you tell us that it reminds you of your homeland because of the abundance of trees and hills.
    • You find Mooroolbark is central to or close by everything you need - services, shopping and facilities.
    • You will miss the Kilsyth pool & have had struggles getting children into swimming lessons close by.
