The weather wasn't exactly what the event organisers were hoping for at the annual Celebrate Mooroolbark Festival today. The rain, whilst it may have caused attendance numbers to be down on previous years, did not stop the enthusiasm and community spirit - Zumba in the rain anyone?!

We were joined today by the team behind Councils Disability Action Plan which is currently open for engagement, who had some good quality conversations and got lots of feedback around the draft plan. Things high on the priority list, which this plan aims to cover include;

  • Accessibility to parks & council facilities.
  • Increasing social connection (at places that are fully accessible to attend)
  • Website accessibility and the need for multiple ways to receive information

The Design & Place team joined us again today & continued the conversation around how you keep active in the outdoors, high on your list of priorities were;

  • Having outdoor space to enjoy in your free time is very important to you.
  • Having space to safely walk, run and for bike riding is important to you.
  • Opportunity to attend outdoor events, festivals etc
  • You also love having spaces to enjoy picnics, bbq's or spaces to gather with family and friends.

Attending these events also provides our teams with opportunities to chat to - and to refer our community to engage with - other local service providers and share information.
