The Rural Advisory Committee (RAC) is Council’s advisory group on issues and initiatives relevant to the rural sector in Yarra Ranges. The RAC has been in operation since 2016 and consists of members from sectors within the agricultural industry and associated agencies.

Council is currently seeking expressions of interest for representatives from the following sectors:

  • Berry Fruit Growing
  • Grape growing (wine grapes)
  • Landcare Australia
  • Rural Service Provider
  • Stone Fruit Growing

The Rural Advisory Committee (RAC) has been established by Council for the purpose of:

  • Providing Yarra Ranges Council with informed and constructive advice, input and support on issues and initiatives relevant to the management and development of the rural sector within the municipality.
  • Being a voice to Council for rural communities and industries in the rural sector.
  • Providing technical advice, local knowledge, and support in rural issues.
  • Assisting Council in the consultative process and providing feedback on Council processes and policies as they relate to the rural sector and regions and to support Council’s decision making.

We are currently recruiting new members from the following industry sectors, who work within Yarra Ranges:

  • Berry Fruit Growing
  • Forestry
  • Grape growing (wine grapes)
  • Landcare
  • Rural Service Provider
  • Stone Fruit Growing

The Advisory Committee is supported and attended by relevant Council staff and nominated Councillors.

We encourage people from all walks of life with a strong connection to Yarra Ranges to apply. It is preferred members live in the region, but not essential.

We are looking for people who feel they can make a four-year commitment to the group.

We meet quarterly (4 times a year). Currently meetings are held on Tuesdays from 3-5pm.

Meetings are held in person at the Lilydale Council Offices, 15 Anderson Street, Lilydale. Meetings may be via video conference depending on the circumstances.
