Proposed new playspace

We have developed a concept design incorporating the feedback given previously in this project.

The proposal for the playspace includes a drinking fountain, seating, slides, swing set, footpath, softfall, landscaping and surrounding fence. There will be improved access from street parking with the inclusion of a new concrete path.

We invited you to provide feedback on the playspace design, which will be used to finalise the plans.

What we heard

We heard from parents and other community members that Wright Avenue Playspace is highly valued by the local community and used for playing, walking, health and fitness and is a place for meeting and making friends. It is a place where a child can learn new things, use their imagination and is a quiet spot to walk and be on your own. You told us that it does not currently meet your needs and requires a diverse range of equipment to suit and entertain all ages.

You would like to see:

  • A playspace design with natural structures, resources and nature play areas.
  • Accessible play equipment.
  • More seating.
  • A fence around the playspace.
  • Landscape and garden beds to create a welcome and inviting space.
  • Swings, slides and monkey bar equipment.

Background

Council first engaged with the community in early 2020 about improving the Wright Ave playspace. Due to circumstances beyond our control the delivery of these playspace improvements has been delayed but we are now ready to present a draft concept plan based on the feedback we heard in the first round of consultation.

Wright Avenue Playspace was identified in Yarra Ranges Council’s 2019 PlaySpace Plan as needing renewal, with pre-design consultation undertaken in August 2020 to establish how the play space could better meet community need.

The $200,000 project is funded equally through the Growing Suburbs Fund and Yarra Ranges Council.

Existing playspace and surrounds

Council uses the word playspace, instead of playground because it covers more than the equipment. It reflects the wide range of users, age groups and experiences of the community in the space.

This survey is looking for your feedback on how to improve this playspace for the future. If you need to report damaged or missing playspace equipment or any other playspace issues/concerns about other playspaces in Yarra Ranges, please Report an issue with a playspace Yarra Ranges Council.

The existing playspace will be renewed in line with the recommendations within the Playspace Plan 2019-2029. As this is a local-level playspace, large infrastructure such as water play, public toilets, shelters and BBQ's along with formal skate and bike activity spaces cannot be accommodated in the scope of these works.
