The Sassafras Village Streetscape Plan will be the first of a series of Village Streetscape Plans for the townships in the Hills. A Streetscape Plan is a way that Council and the community can work together to design a blueprint for improving their town.

A Streetscape Plan can include improving:

  • Accessibility and movement
  • Landscaping
  • Footpaths and walkways
  • Outdoor Furniture
  • Signage directing people to town facilities
  • Drainage
  • Bike facilities

Improving accessibility, as well as the look and feel of the Town Centre, can create a lively, welcoming space for the community to thrive in.

The Streetscape Plan will provide clarity on priorities for Council funding, allowing projects to be planned for in Council work programs and funding programming.

Key themes (what we've heard)

There have been many engagement opportunities for different projects in recent years. This feedback has been consolidated and will be considered in the development of the draft Masterplan.

Over the last few years, there have been several opportunities for the community to provide input into local projects, including the Sassafras Village Green Project and conversations with traders and other groups. This feedback has been grouped into key themes that will be considered:

  • Movement

    Prioritise pedestrian safety and explore options to better control traffic flow, speed and parking within the activity centre.

  • Accessibility

    Improve access, functionality & safety of public spaces such as open space, footpaths, car parks & toilets.

  • Streetscape Beautification

    Develop a consistent design approach incorporating garden beds, street furniture & signage.

  • ​Celebrating Local Culture & Heritage

    Promote local history including Indigenous, European & Nature heritage, through public artworks and storytelling elements.

  • ​Community Activation

    Increase community activities in the Village Green such as events, public performance and markets.

  • ​Protection & Celebration of Natural Assets

    Prioritise protection of the natural environment, whilst enhancing access to nature walks, views & rivers.
