Following our consultations we are reassessing the initial design to address concerns around local congestion. We agree that this is an important aspect, so we are looking for how we can keep all of the great features of the initial design, while streamlining traffic.

The proposed raised pedestrian crossings would be in the heart of Olinda on Mount Dandenong Tourist Road and Olinda-Monbulk Road.

We have worked closely with schools, businesses and other key stakeholders in Olinda to understand their needs and aspirations. This feedback, along with community consultation has given suggestions on how we can further improve the initial design.

Our team is continuing to work in the background to reassess designs and address community concerns. You can also click the 'follow' button at the top of the page to sign up to Shaping Yarra Ranges and be kept in the loop with updates for this project.

Community consultation

How did people get involved?

Residents in Yarra Ranges found out about the engagement and got involved in the following ways...

What we heard

  • Shared movement, shared priority, less congestion

Managing traffic flow through the main intersection.
Many contributors felt there needed to be a better balance between vehicles and pedestrians rather than providing full priority to one or the other. There were several suggestions to consider traffic lights or install a roundabout and we are currently revisiting these options.

  • Parking

Many contributors felt that there is inadequate parking and suggested to consider providing more parking near the Olinda recreation reserve for instance or providing better bus services to the hills to reduce congestion.

  • Speed limits

While there was strong support for a speed limit reduction of some sort (75%), many people felt the change is only needed during business hours rather than a blanket 24/7 reduction.
