Background

Over the years there have been several informal bike jumps, tracks and trails created in Yarra Ranges. During the pandemic we also saw an increase in these structures being created, which not only raises some safety concerns but can also have a negative effect on the biodiversity of the local environment.

In 2021 we undertook a 5-week Bike Park consultation with over 2000 responses and 390 comments from the community. The findings showed a keen interest from the community for increasing formal bike infrastructure around Yarra Ranges. Morrison Reserve was identified as a spot for building a new bike park for a few reasons:

  • The available open space is an uncommon opportunity in the district to create a bike facility.
  • The location is accessible to the surrounding communities in Wandin, Montrose, Kalorama, Lilydale, Silvan, Kilsyth and Seville.
  • The reserve's landscape is an excellent building block for an all-ability bike park that considers the existing environment.

These facilities will give the community more localised and suitable bike infrastructure to support participation and promote a healthy and active community.
