Public notice

Notice is given pursuant to section 39(6) of the Local Government Act 2020 and sections 74 and 223 of the Local Government Act 1989 that Yarra Ranges Council (“Council”) is to review the allowances paid to the Mayor and Councillors.

Council resolved at its meeting 23 March 2021 to give notice of its intention to review allowances and that it proposes to retain the allowances at the current levels of $100,434 per annum for the Mayor and $31,444 per annum for Councillors (plus an amount equivalent to the superannuation guarantee which is currently 9.5% and scheduled to increase to 10% on 1 July).

Anyone wishing to make a submission on the proposal must do so in writing by 5.00pm on Monday, 26 April 2021. All submissions should be addressed to the Chief Executive Officer, be clearly marked “Review of Mayor and Councillor Allowances” and be submitted in one of the following ways:

Anyone who wishes to be heard in support of their submission must clearly indicate this in their written submission. This will entitle them to appear in person or be represented by a person acting on their behalf at the Hearing of Submissions Committee, scheduled to be held on Tuesday 4 May 2021 at 7.00pm.

Submissions made in accordance with section 223 of the Local Government Act 1989 are considered public documents and may be incorporated in the agenda and minutes of the Council meeting at which they are considered. The agenda and minutes will be made available on Council's website. Submissions and personal information will be managed by Council in accordance with the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014.

Subject to any changes resulting from the consideration of submissions, the proposed mayoral and councillor allowances will be adopted at the Council Meeting scheduled to be held at 7.00pm on Tuesday 25 May 2021.
