Lilydale Wayfinding Strategy

30 June 2022

Lilydale is a significant township acting as an urban employment, transport, and service hub. It is a tourism and economic gateway to the wider Yarra Ranges region.

As a result, Yarra Ranges Council is in the process of developing a Wayfinding Strategy for the Lilydale Town Centre area.

Wayfinding uses tools such as signage and maps to assist people in navigating an area by providing them with directions to nearby landmarks, facilities and services.

This project will give us a better understanding of how efficient our current wayfinding tools are and identify gaps where we can improve to assist our community and visitors in finding their way around.

The completed strategy will provide evidence-based analysis, design concepts and implementation recommendations.

What is the goal of a Wayfinding Strategy?

  • Analyse current wayfinding signage in Lilydale.
  • Gather information and insights on how residents and visitors navigate Lilydale Town Centre.
  • Identify pedestrian movements and key locations both in and around the Town Centre area.
  • Design a set of signs, maps and wayfinding tools that will improve the navigation experience.
  • Provide a locations plan for future installation of signage across the town centre.

What will the outcome be?

  • A Wayfinding Audit Report of all signage around Lilydale Central Business District (along Main Street.)
  • An evidence-based Wayfinding Strategy supported by analysis, concept design and implementation recommendations.
