As Lilydale grows, so do the diverse needs of its community. In response, Council is introducing the Lilydale Parking Precinct Plan to update current parking restrictions within the township and address evolving demands. This project aims to create more equitable parking outcomes, ensuring that residents, business operators, and visitors all benefit from improved accessibility and fair access to parking.

Parking areas which are not managed by Council, such as Lilydale train station and parking associated with private shopping areas, are not included within the changes.

These changes are in line with the Draft Parking Management Framework, as part of Council continuing to review parking infrastructure in individual towns/ areas as required.

Reviewed changes

As a result of community feedback and expert analysis, we’ve made the following changes to the Parking Precinct Plan in Lilydale:

  • There are 67 unrestricted (untimed) spaces
  • There are 87 spaces with 4 hour restrictions
  • An additional four accessible parking spaces across the precinct
  • Clarification of Council managed spaces at Lions Park (4 hour) and at the rear of the Crown Hotel (unrestricted)
  • Removal of the 15 minute parking near 257 Maroondah Hwy and installation of two 15 minute spaces near 176 Maroondah Highway
  • Replacing the 1 and 2 hour restrictions along the Maroondah Highway service road in the vicinity of the CFA with a 4 hour restriction
  • Introduction of 4 hour restrictions on Clarke Street in the vicinity of the Croquet Club
  • Adjusted parking around the Lilydale Civic Centre
  • Removal of one loading bay and changes to the operational times of the other bays at the intersection of Maroondah Highway and Castella Street
  • At Lillydale Lake 218 spaces remain unrestricted, and 13 spaces with a 2 hour restriction will be introduced to provide spaces for short visits and encourage turnover of these spaces
  • Spaces used by mobile traders will be formalised at Lillydale Lake

What we heard.

The Community highlighted several areas to be reconsidered in the proposed changes.
  • Accessible parking

    The need for more accessible parking was noted, including a new bay at Services Australia (John Street).

  • Unrestricted parking

    We heard you wanted more options for all-day parking; we've added 67 more spaces.

  • Timed parking

    We continued the discussion, looking at specific locations (eg Croquet Club and businesses) and updated the timing to better serve your customers.

  • Lillydale Lake

    You liked the idea of short-term parking at the Lake to encourage availability for all users- we're now adding 13 spaces.
    We're also introducing formalised spaces for traders.

Changes to parking restrictions

When reviewing parking in Lilydale, key focus areas include:

  • Maintaining the greatest proportion of short term parking (up to 1 hour) adjacent to shops to facilitate greater turnover.
  • Increasing the number of 2 and 3 hour parking spaces within service roads to provide more parking options for customers.
  • Introducing a 2 hour parking restriction within Lion’s Park (John Street) to highlight public parking availability.
  • Introducing nine (9) 2 hour parking spaces at Lillydale Lake to improve access and turnover for visitors who stay for short periods (222 spaces will remain unrestricted).
