Lillydale Lake is a regional recreation area, popular with local residents and visitors. On any given day you will find people walking, running, bike riding, exercising dogs, gathering with family and friends, having fun at the playspace or just enjoying the natural environment. The lake offers a unique inland opportunity in the region, as a place where people of all abilities can learn to sail, kayak, and flyfish.

The park currently hosts around one million visits per year. This will increase as the local population is expected to grow by 43% to 31,000 additional residents by 2041. The Kinley development alone, neighbouring the Lillydale Lake area, will add approximately 8,000 new residents, when completed.

The Lillydale Lake Master Plan recognises this future demand and recommends manageable, moderate changes, to be delivered over the next 15 years. There is a strong focus on accessibility, connecting the area to other parts of Lilydale to encourage 'active transport' (walking and riding) and engaging spaces for young people.

The master plan was adopted by Council in April 2024.

Community engagement

The draft Lillydale Lake Park Master Plan was presented to the community for review and feedback in August - September 2023, seeking further feedback on whether the proposed improvements addressed the community’s needs and concerns.
