Why is this a focus area?

It’s important to track our progress so we know what’s working, what needs improvement and how our actions are helping the environment and community.

During the evaluation of the 2015 Environment Strategy Council found that clear indicators and reporting systems are essential to ensuring our actions are successful and align with contemporary legislation and other plans such as Council's Liveable Climate Plan and Nature Plan.

Future tracking and reporting will also help us measure the wider benefits of environmental work such as health, wellbeing and economic resilience.

What has the community said so far?

The community wants more transparency from all levels of government, including Council. People want clear, easytounderstand updates on progress, challenges and results.

Council’s Sustainable Environment Advisory Committee has encouraged public reporting that tracks progress and shows measurable success through time.

What has Council been doing in this space?

In 2024–25, Council strengthened how it tracks and reports progress by:

  • Publishing the Annual Sustainability Report, showing results across environment, climate and sustainability goals.
  • Setting targets and reporting requirements across key sub strategies, including the Community Waste and Resource Recovery Plan, Liveable Climate Plan and Nature Plan, to ensure a consistent and aligned approach.
